Tom Wargi(pictured at
right) creates original
whale-tails and salmon
from dead or blown down
trees.  His creations are
carved from yellow cedar
and hemlock trees. Both
are abundant in Southeast
Alaska where Tom has
lived since 1986. Tom
started carving in 2000
but has dabbled in many
other mediums including
stained glass, oil
painting and pencil
drawing. His move to wood
carving was prompted by
a love for
three-dimensional art.
There are no two creations
alike and each piece is
handcrafted by Tom
himself.
Picture at left: Tom spends
many hours working on the fine
detail of a salmon carving.  "A
whole lot of elbow grease goes
into each fin."

WORK-IN-PROGRESS!
Tom is shown here at his
workshop with three pieces
he is working on:
whale-tail, salmon, and
bear.
